Test overview
Find the exact UKVI-approved test that matches your immigration goal, tailored precisely to your English proficiency needs.
All Skills for English tests use computer-based delivery for all skills. Reading and listening are automatically marked during the test session itself; speaking and writing are recorded digitally during the test session and marked by trained assessors (who have no visibility of your personal details) after you’ve finished. That means you can move through each of the skills sections in turn in a single test session and receive your results available in as little as 3 to 5 days, or up to 14 days.
Following are the different skills that each part evaluates:
- Speaking
- Listening
- Reading
- Writing

Asses your level
Once you know which Skills for English test you need to take for your required visa, or for entry to your chosen institution, use these tools to find out your current ability level.
These short tests have questions on vocabulary, grammar and the way English is used. They are NOT designed to test your listening, speaking or writing skills.
The results of these tests give you an indication of your CEFR level. These tests should NOT be used as the only tool to help you decide your CEFR level. Your teacher, if you have one, can help you with further guidance on which CEFR level you are prepared to meet.
There is a CEFR level finder for each of the levels, A1, A2, B1, B2, C1 and C2. Each test has 10 questions.
