Exam

The “one-week-remaining-in-exam” mark is a unique phase in any professional’s certification journey. Think about it, you’ve done the mock exams, you’ve highlighted your PMBOK® Guide, and you’ve memorized the Risk Response strategies. But as the exam date at MontRoyal Elevate center in Abu Dhabi approaches, a different kind of anxiety kicks in: What to do on exam day??.

Questions like; “How long is the exam? Can I take a break in the middle? What happens if I get stuck?”

Confusion is the enemy of performance.

The PMI-RMP exam is 150 minutes long with 115 questions. It includes one optional 10-minute break. This guide provides the official 2026 logistics for candidates testing at our professional center or via online proctoring.

Feature Detail
Duration 150 Minutes (2.5 Hours)
Total Questions 115 Multiple-Choice
Scored Questions 100 Questions
Pre-test (Unscored) 15 Questions
Breaks 1 Optional (10 Minutes)
Passing Result Available Immediately

To help you walk into your PMI-RMP (Risk Management Professional) exam with total “Pre-Iftar” energy, below are few of the important planning pointers, that you can consider to ensure the success.

1. The Clock and the Count: Exam Structure

The PMI-RMP exam is a marathon of focus, not a sprint.

  • How long is the PMI-RMP exam? You have exactly 150 minutes (2.5 hours) to complete the session.
  • How many questions will I face? The exam consists of 115 multiple-choice questions.
  • Do all questions count? No. Out of the 115, only 100 are scored. The remaining 15 are “pre-test” questions used by PMI for future validation.

Pro-Tip: You won’t know which questions are the unscored ones. Treat every single question with the same level of professional rigor. Don’t waste time trying to “spot the fake.”

2. Managing the Mid-Exam Break

This is one of the most common points of confusion for candidates.

  • Is there a break? Yes. You are eligible for one optional 10-minute break.
  • When does it happen? The system will prompt you for a break once you complete the first section of the exam (usually around question 57).
  • Does the break time eat into my 150 minutes? No. The exam clock stops during this 10-minute window.
  • Can I skip the break? Absolutely. If you are in a high-focus flow, you can decline the break and move straight to the second half. You would need to call the exam administrator and he/she shall assist you to begin the exam skipping the break.

The Critical Warning: Once you submit the first half of your exam and start your break (or skip it), you cannot go back. You will not be able to review or change any answers from the first section. Make sure you are 100% happy with your first 57 answers before you decide to skip the break!

3. What to Bring (and What to Leave Behind)

Whether you are testing at our professional exam center in Abu Dhabi or in Dubai or at home, the “gear” rules are strict.

  • Identification: You must bring a valid, non-expired, government-issued photo ID. The name on your ID must match the name on your PMI application exactly.
  • Calculators: You do not need to bring your own. If you are at our center, we provide a standard calculator. If you are testing online, a built-in digital calculator is provided within the software.
  • Scratch Paper: At our exam center, you are provided with a booklet and markers for your “brain dump.” For online proctored exams, physical paper is strictly prohibited; you must use the digital “Whiteboard” tool.

4. Solving the “Online vs. Center” Dilemma

If you haven’t booked your seat yet, consider the environment.

  • The Online Proctored Experience: You are responsible for your internet stability, your room’s silence, and your hardware. If a family member walks into the room or your Wi-Fi flickers, your exam can be terminated immediately.
  • The Professional Center Experience: At MontRoyal Elevate, we handle the technical side very carefully. We provide the high-speed connection, the backup power, and a controlled silent room designed for high-stakes testing. This allows you to focus 100% on Risk Analysis, not IT troubleshooting.

5. Scoring and The “Pass” Mark

  • What is the passing score? PMI does not publish a specific percentage (like 70%). Instead, they use a “sound psychometric analysis” to determine if you meet the passing standard.
  • When do I find out? The suspense is short! You will receive your preliminary results on the screen immediately after clicking “Submit.” A detailed report showing your performance in the five domains (Above Target, Target, Below Target, or Needs Improvement) will be available in your PMI portal within 48 hours.

6. What if Things Go Wrong? (Retakes and Rescheduling)

  • Can I reschedule at the last minute? If you are within 48 hours of your exam, you generally cannot reschedule. Between 48 hours and 30 days, there is a rescheduling fee.
  • If I don’t pass, when can I try again? You can take the exam up to three times within your one-year eligibility period. We recommend waiting at least two weeks to review your “Below Target” areas before your second attempt.

7. Final Week Strategy for Professionals

If you are an L&D Manager or a career-driven employee, your time is your most valuable asset. In this final week:

  1. Review the “Monitor & Close” Domain: Many students focus too much on identification and forget that 19% of the exam covers how to close out risks.
  2. Practice the Digital Whiteboard: If testing online, spend 15 minutes practicing drawing a decision tree with a mouse. It’s harder than it looks!
  3. Drive to the Center: If testing with us, do a “practice drive” to our location this week. Knowing exactly where to park and where the door is reduces cortisol levels on exam morning.
